A deviating event that is becoming all too frequent; another public shooting leaves 12 dead, including a Sheriff and the gunman.

[dropcaps type=’normal’ font_size=’65’ color=’#ed145b’ background_color=” border_color=”]T[/dropcaps]he LA Times report that around 11:20pm Wednesday night a lone gunman, dressed in all black, entered the Borderline Bar & Grill in the Thousand Oaks Mall outside of LA, spot frequented by college students, and violently open fired and threw smoke bombs into the crowd. Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Ron Helus was only a year away from retirement and unfortunately one of the 12 lost in the massacre. He and a California Highway Patrol officer were among the first respondents to the scene. When entering the bar, they were hit with several shots from the suspect. Helus was rushed to a local hospital however he passed away Thursday morning.

Details are still unraveling about the gunman. It is not yet known if the shooter took his own life but terrorism has quickly been ruled out as a motivator in the incident.
